Improving European traceability in the field of low gauge and absolute pressure in EMPIR project

Improving European traceability in the field of low gauge and absolute pressure in EMPIR project

On March 30th, the European Metrology Programme for Innovation and Research (EMPIR) JRP 14IND06 3rd annual meeting took place at UTH engineering school in Volos, Greece. Our Technical Director, Carel Adolfse was invited to join the meeting and share his experiences in respect to traceability of the Fluke FPG8601 low pressure standard and the use of the FPG8601 to calibrate fluid columns.

The presentation Carel gave is available and explains how to perform this calibration. If you are interested in receiving this presentation, please send us an e-mail and we will hand it over to you. You are also welcome to contact Carel by phone: +31 33 46 22 000.

One of the EMPIR projects Minerva is involved in focusses on low gauge and absolute pressure. Minerva works with the Fluke FPG8601 on a day to day basis in our ISO/IEC 17025 accredited lab. Our knowledge and experience in this field is used to improve European traceability.

This project is an excellent example of the joint forces of scientists from EMPIR and practitioners, exclusively from Minerva Metrology and Calibration. The scientists involved and present at this EMPIR meeting came from the national metrology labs from Germany, Portugal, Greece, France, Spain, Czech Republic, amongst other renown organizations.

EMPIR Horizon project

About EMPIR and Horizon 2020

Horizon 2020 aims to reinforce and extend the excellence of the EU's science base and to consolidate the European Research Area in order to make the research and innovation system more competitive on a global scale. The EMPIR calls, launched between 2014 and 2020, have an allocated total budget of 600 M €, with 300 M € from the participating states and up to 300 M € from the European Commission using Article 185 of the European Treaty.

EMPIR has been initiated as an integrated part of Horizon 2020, the EU Framework Programme for Research and Innovation. EMPIR Joint Research Projects (JRPs) from these calls focus on priority areas, known as Targeted Programmes (TPs), to address the EU's Grand Challenges in Health, Energy, Environment and Industry, and to progress Fundamental Measurement Science.

The Fundamental TPs will see European metrology institutes working closely with universities and other research institutions to bring European measurement science to an internationally leading position.
