Getting to know new Minerva team member Sander Kloosterman
At Minerva, people of all ages and different backgrounds work in various job positions. Recently Sander Kloosterman joined the team and began working at Minerva as a service technician. Time to get to know him a bit.
Serpentine-like fish
Sander, it’s nice to get to know you a bit better and introduce you to everyone. What can you tell us about yourself?
Well, I’m Sander, 25 years old and I live in the city of Almere where I have lived all my life. I have been living by myself in my own place for about 2 years now.
What do you find important when interacting with other people?
Having mutual respect.
Do you have a motto or creed in life?
It costs absolutely nothing to be kind to others.
What excites you?
I have always had a keen interest in technology, as a child I found it fascinating to figure out how things work and played with LEGO a lot. Later on, I used to watch Discovery Channels’ “How It’s Made” which actually taught me a lot.
Furthermore, I like playing video games a lot. Currently I’m playing Monster Hunter: World.
I also have an aquarium with a few special fish species in it. For example, I have Honey Gourami (Trichogaster chuna) which are tropical fish. You will also find Kuhli Loachs aka the “coolie” loach in my tank. They are funny, serpentine-looking fish.

What did you do in life before you joined the Minerva team?
In middle school I chose a technical specialisation. After I graduated, I went to ROC Flevoland where I got a post-secondary vocational degree in Engineering. Electrical engineering I found to be the most interesting subject of that studies. At the company Testo I did an internship where I focused on calibrations and temperature.
I started off my career at Ice Cobotics in Hoofddorp, a company that builds, services and sells robotic vacuum cleaners. There I worked as a service technician, carried out repairs and predominantly replaced parts in equipment.
The next step in my career was at Aqtis Medical in Almere as a validation engineer. I was part of a small team and responsible for validating and the maintaining of new medical equipment within a cleanroom. Furthermore, was responsible for writing up qualification reports.
Ready for calibration
What are your duties as a service technician at Minerva?
For incoming instruments received from customers I do entry verification tests. Checking to see whether an instrument is functioning as its supposed to, check for leakage and stability. Basically, to see if the unit is ready to be calibrated. I also repair equipment. Currently mostly oil using equipment but also nitrogen.
What is the biggest challenge you’re facing in your job?
I would like to gain a deeper understanding of the technical side of this job. Fortunately for me I am receiving the proper guidance to get that.
What do you like the most about your job?
I like being able to use my hands and I like that the job is very small-scale. As in, it truly is precision work working with delicate equipment.
The customer comes first
What have you noticed about Minerva as a business?
The atmosphere is great, everyone pays attention to each other, and it feels like I have joined a type of family almost.
In your opinion, what does Minerva stand for?
The customer comes first, it is important for there to be good and clear communication towards the customer and that they receive back their equipment in a timely manner.
What does Minerva’s promise ‘ensuring carefree calibration’ stand for to customers according to you?
As mentioned before, our clear communication and making sure our customers are in the loop and up to date is of great importance. We strive to be an open book, transparent and integer.
What is your personal promise to the customers of Minerva?
I’ll make sure to put in the effort needed to get the work done and reduce the turnaround time, hopefully resulting in a satisfied customer.
